Rehabilitation in Henan — assessment and programme

Ten days, nine nights, built around the rehabilitation department at the Fifth Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University. Assessment comes before the programme, with two low-intensity outings in between. Intensity is set by the therapist from the assessment, not from a fixed template.

Itinerary

  1. 1Arrive in Zhengzhou

    Transfer and check-in near the rehabilitation campus. Your coordinator takes in prior records, imaging and operative notes, and confirms the assessment schedule.

  2. 2Functional assessmentClinical appointment

    The rehabilitation team carries out a baseline assessment: motor function, balance and gait, activities of daily living, and swallowing or speech where relevant. A written goal plan and a recommended programme length are issued the same day.

  3. 3Therapy beginsClinical appointment

    One-to-one sessions begin on the assessed plan, usually two to three a day, combining physiotherapy and occupational therapy. The therapist records tolerance daily.

  4. 4TherapyClinical appointment

    Continued sessions, with speech therapy, swallowing work or cardiac rehabilitation added as needed.

  5. 5Therapy and mid-point reviewClinical appointment

    The therapist reviews progress and adjusts the goals. A family member or carer attends a training session.

  6. 6TherapyClinical appointment

    Continued sessions. Where stamina allows, walking in the hospital grounds is used as a transfer-of-function exercise.

  7. 7Yuntai Mountain, gentle routes

    A low-intensity outing cleared by the therapist: the flat stream-side path at Tanpu Gorge, with the option to turn back at any point. Internal shuttles cut the walking down.

  8. 8Shaolin Temple, cultural visit

    Mostly vehicle time and the demonstration. Walking in the temple precinct is kept under an hour with a rest stop.

  9. 9Discharge review and home programmeClinical appointment

    Final functional review measured against the baseline; written discharge report, home programme and follow-up schedule. Your coordinator hands over the translated set.

  10. 10Departure

    Transfer to station or airport. Remote reviews then follow the agreed schedule.
