What to see
The phantom city
The performance space is carried by a huge rammed-earth-coloured grid of buildings — the site's most immediate signature.
Three main theatres
The backbone of the programme; main shows require choosing a slot in advance.
56 dramatic spaces
Scattered through the city and performed continuously as short scenes.
Land, grain, inheritance
The theme the whole programme is built around.

Tai Chi on stage
An immersive theatre complex built around land, grain and inheritance: several theatres and outdoor spaces that the audience moves between. It is not a historic site but a contemporary work, telling the story of the central plain and the Yellow River through performance. For visitors with limited stamina it is friendlier than a day of climbing — mostly indoors, self-paced, with places to sit throughout.
What to see
- Several theatres running independently; combine them according to the day's timetable.
- The rammed-earth enclosure, the complex's most recognisable image.
- Immersive, walking performance rather than sitting in a seat for the duration.
- Evening sessions, when the spaces read very differently under lighting.
Practical notes
Expect a lot of standing and walking, but most of it is indoors with frequent seating. Performances are in Chinese — ask in advance about subtitles or an English guide. Ticket types and schedules are complex; confirm the day's programme on official channels before travelling. It works well as the afternoon and evening of the day after a checkup.
