Questions
Questions patients actually ask
Including the ones with uncomfortable answers.
Before you travel
Can I use visa-free entry for medical treatment?
No. Both the unilateral and the 240-hour transit visa-free routes permit business, tourism, family visits, exchanges and transit — not medical treatment. Coming for treatment requires a visa, with an invitation letter or appointment confirmation from the hospital. The Chinese embassy in your country is the authority on your case.
What if it is only a checkup plus sightseeing?
The line is not clear, and we will not decide it for you. The safe route is to apply for a visa as a medical visitor with a hospital invitation letter: the paperwork is stronger and you will not be stopped at the border unable to explain your purpose.
How do I get the invitation letter, and do I pay first?
After the hospital has reviewed your records and confirmed it can accept the case (stage 4), we issue the invitation letter and appointment confirmation at no charge. Nothing is payable before you have the plan and the cost estimate.
What happens to my medical records?
Your enquiry and the information you send are stored on Railway, the cloud platform this site runs on, in its US East (Virginia) data centre — not in mainland China. We pass them to a partner hospital in China only with your separate written authorisation, which you can withdraw at any time. For each new enquiry, our coordinators receive a DingTalk (Alibaba, China) notification with your name, contact details, language, type of request, specialty and message.
Money
What will the whole thing cost?
Two parts: hospital fees, which the institution charges directly and estimates item by item after review; and our coordination fee, which is published and excludes flights and visa costs. The trip estimator gives an indicative total for coordination and accommodation, but hospital fees only count once the institution confirms them in writing.
If the hospital declines my case, am I charged?
No coordination fee is charged when a hospital declines to review the case. Translation work already completed is not refundable, because it has been done.
Clinical care
Could the hospital refuse my case?
Yes. The usual reasons are incomplete records, a condition outside that hospital's scope, or a clinical state that makes long-distance transfer unsafe. We explain the reason, look for alternatives, and tell you plainly if there are none.
Will the doctor speak my language?
Hospital staff work mainly in Chinese. Interpretation is arranged for consultations, ward rounds and anything consequential, and written material is translated by medical translators. Do not rely on machine translation to understand a treatment plan.
While you are here
Can family come, and where do they stay?
Yes. We book rooms with an extra bed within walking distance of the hospital; rehabilitation stays usually need a companion for weeks, so serviced apartments are available. Family members need their own visa and entry arrangements, arranged in advance.
Can I reach the doctor after I go home?
You leave with a follow-up schedule and remote reviews happen at the agreed intervals. You can send local test results for the physician to assess. Ongoing care beyond the agreed follow-up period is arranged separately.

Tell us what you need. A coordinator will reply within one business day. Nothing is shared with a hospital until you authorise it.
