Henan Baoquan Tourist Area lies within Huixian, Xinxiang, Henan, and is a national 5A scenic area. It is made up of two parks, the Grand Canyon and Yatianxia, with flowers in spring, water play in summer, autumn leaves and winter snow — activities in every season — making it an ideal place for sightseeing, amusement, water play and holidays. The Baoquan Grand Canyon, first among the Taihang for its water, is known as "the water world of the Taihang, the waterfalls of the Central Plains". Baoquan Yatianxia astonishes with its cliffs: it has Youlong Bay, a winding gorge that made the cover of Chinese National Geography magazine, and thrilling cliff challenges such as a cliff bungee, cliff swing and cliff via ferrata, and is known as "the blue tears of the Taihang Mountains" and "the cliff journey to make once in a lifetime".

What to see

  • Jianlong Waterfall

Also called Tantou Waterfall, after Tantou village above it. It falls from a cliff at 580 m to the valley floor at 260 m, a drop of 320 m, and is known as the first waterfall of the Central Plains.

  • Feilong Waterfall

A heavy flow pours from the top of a knife-cut cliff with a drop of more than 180 m. It runs strongly all year, and its roar can be heard from several li away.

  • Yunü and Qingtai waterfalls

Baoquan sits on the Yu river system. The operator describes Yunü Waterfall as a maiden fresh from her bath standing in a green pool, and Qingtai as clear water trickling down over green moss.

  • Luojiasi cableway

A double-track, single-haul reversible cableway, 1,100 m long with a 334 m rise, using two cabins that each carry 180 people, for up to 2,500 passengers an hour.

  • L-shaped cave elevator

A double-deck sightseeing elevator in an L-shaped tunnel — a level adit of about 372 m and a shaft of about 336 m. The operator describes it as the sightseeing elevator with the greatest travel height in China.

  • Danya Sky Road and Xiangyun platform

The Danya Sky Road runs 3,000 m along the top of the red cliffs on its original surface. The Xiangyun platform covers 1,739 m², with a 142 m glass walkway and high-level experiences including a bungee and a glass slide.

A national 5A scenic area at the southern end of the Taihang Mountains in Huixian, Xinxiang. It has two parks: the Baoquan Grand Canyon, a landscape of red-rock cliffs, Baoquan Lake and clusters of waterfalls that the operator calls "the water world of the Taihang, the waterfalls of the Central Plains"; and Yatianxia ("Cliffs Under Heaven"), built along the cliff tops west of the canyon, with clifftop walks and challenge rides such as a cliff swing, bungee jump and via ferrata. A cableway and a cave elevator connect the two.

What to see

  • Jianlong Waterfall, also called Tantou Waterfall: the operator gives a drop of about 320 m and calls it the first waterfall of the Central Plains.
  • Feilong, Yunü and Qingtai waterfalls, among others, set between the canyon's red walls.
  • The Luojiasi cableway and the L-shaped cave elevator, which link the canyon floor to the clifftop park and are sights in their own right.
  • The Danya Sky Road and the Xiangyun glass platform: a clifftop path and viewing deck over the canyon and its green river bends.

Practical notes

The operator publishes opening hours of 08:00–18:00 and an enquiry line, 0373-6515555; check the day's notice before setting out. The area is large, with a lot of walking and steps, so allow a full day and wear shoes with grip. The cliff swing, bungee and other high rides have health requirements; anyone who has just had a checkup, feels unwell or has a heart condition should not take part.
